A 25-year-old church secretary, identified as Hayford Kofi Baah, has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating GH₵300,000 belonging to his church.
Authorities alleged that the funds were used to sponsor his gay partner’s tertiary education and travel expenses to Canada.
According to preliminary investigations, the funds were siphoned from the church’s accounts over an unspecified period.
Church leaders reportedly noticed discrepancies in financial records, prompting a thorough audit, which led to the discovery of the missing funds.
The investigation revealed that the money was allegedly used to pay tuition fees and cover other expenses for Baah’s partner, who recently travelled to Canada for educational purposes.
Police have confirmed the arrest and stated that Baah is cooperating with authorities as they continue their investigation.
Meanwhile, church members and leadership have expressed shock and dismay at the alleged betrayal of trust.
Legal proceedings are expected to begin soon, with Baah facing charges of theft and embezzlement.
