Former head coach of the Black Stars, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, has clarified claims by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, that he had been paid an amount of $100,000 after his contract was terminated.

This comes after the sports minister on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, disclosed that both CK Akonnor and Milovan Rajevac had been paid an amount of $100,000 after their contracts were terminated.

“We still owe Milovan Rajevac and CK Akonnor. Once their contracts were terminated, we sat with them, negotiated their exit, and CK was paid $100,000 immediately after the negotiation, just as Milovan as well,” Mustapha Ussif said during the Wednesday press briefing.

However, CK Akonnor has refuted the claim that the minister made that he received the said amount.

”I never received the kind of money the minister mentioned. I don’t want to put out how much they paid me but it was not $100,000 as the minister said,” Akonnor said in an interview with Graphic Sports.

Mr. Akonnor explained that though he was paid some amount of money in cedis after he was sacked and was asked to convert the cedis to dollors. But he said due to the fact that the rate was lower at the time, it was not closer to the $100,000 reported.

He challenged the minister by asking him to refer to his contract, with is still with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

”My contract is still with the FA and if he likes he can go and check the agreement we had and see before making the claim, and he will know that he is wrong,” Akonnor stated.
