The Ministry of Youth and Sports has made public the payment transactions made to former Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor after he was sacked as the senior national team’s head coach.
The development came about after CK Akonnor’s interview with Graphic Sports, which denied claims made by the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, that he had been paid $100,000 after his contract was terminated.
”I never received the kind of money the minister mentioned. I don’t want to put out how much they paid me but it was not $100,000 as the minister said,”
”My contract is still with the FA and if he likes he can go and check the agreement we had and see before making the claim, and he will know that he is wrong,” Akonnor said in an interview with Graphic Sports.
However, the ministry has in a statement clarified that Mr. Akonnor was paid $508,108.12, admitting that they are yet to pay the remaining balance of $220,000.
“The attention of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has been drawn to publications in the media regarding an amount of money owed the former coach of the Black Stars, Charles Kwablan Akonnor following the termination of his contract.
“A total amount of $508,108.12 has been paid leaving an outstanding balance of $220,000,” part of the statement read.
