The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared its support for the teacher unions for embarking on an industrial action over the appointment of Dr Eric Nkansah as the new Director-General of GES.

According to CLOGSAG, it has been following with keen interest the impasse between the three Teachers’ Unions and the Ghana Education Service.

While supporting the Teacher Unions on the bold steps they have taken to sanitize the operations of the Ghana Education Service,

CLOGSAG finds the twists and turns in the discussion quite unhealthy.

According to CLOGSAG, similar appointments in the Civil Service and the Local Government Service are not conducive to industrial harmony.

A case in point is the appointment of the Registrar at the Births and Deaths Registry, which has culminated in a court action that is still pending.

The 1992 Constitution provides under Article 195(1) that 195(1)” subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the power to appoint persons to hold or to act in an office in the public services shall vest in the President, acting in accordance with the advice of the

governing council of the service concerned given in consultation with the Public Services Commission”.

Per the Constitution, CLOGSAG believes that the President should have done this in accordance with the governing council of the service to bring harmony in the first place.
