The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike starting on November 7, citing delays by the government in implementing a new salary structure.
CLOGSAG previously warned of this action in a statement on October 22, anticipating that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) would miss the October 31 deadline to finalize the new pay structure.
The strike decision stems from the government’s failure to implement the agreed salary adjustments, despite an MoU reached a year and a half ago.
In a statement on Monday, November 4, CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, expressed doubts about the feasibility of the January 1, 2025 implementation date, deeming it unrealistic.
He also announced that CLOGSAG would cease further engagement with FWSC CEO Benjamin Arthur, citing perceived bad faith in negotiations.
“As a result of the long delay in the completion of a New Salary Structure and other Conditions of Service for the Staff of Civil Service and Local Government Service, the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has no than to ask our members to stay at home on Thursday, November 7th.”
