The Management of Ghana COCOBOD has introduced a new smart way to identify all cocoa farmers in the country.
The new initiative by the COCOBOD, Cocoa Management Systems (Cocoa card) is aimed at targeting farmers who are spontaneously engaged in cocoa farming.
In an interview on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, a senior public affairs officer of the COCOBOD, Mr. David Asare stated that due to huge contributions by the cocoa farmers to the Ghanaian economy, COCOBOD aims at improving the quality of life of the cocoa farmer, hence the need for prudent measures to assist the farmers.
According to him, the aim is to count all farmers and measure the farm size of the farmer in order to issue the cocoa card for the farmers.
“Through our new scheme, the Cocoa Management Systems, the aim is to count every farmer and measure their farm size whiles we issue the card afterwards,” he revealed.

The new initiative by COCOBOD, he said, will have officials from COCOBOD, engage, count and take all the necessary information that will be needed to implement the initiative.
The officials from the COCOBOD maintained that the new smart way has nothing to in conjunction with amassing tax from cocoa farmers but rather, to inculcate good relations between the farmers and the COCOBOD.
Mr. Asare made it known that, there is going to be two set of batches, summing up to three hundred (300) personnel.
He said the first set of batch of surveyors that will be taken farmers through the processes of measuring their farms in the Kwahu West District for two weeks.
Additionally, the second batch, which will be the enumerators, will also take over after the farmhouses are measured. The enumerators will then take all the necessary information, including names, date of birth and family details and size of the farm from the farmers.
In addition, the data accrued from the processes will be linked to the SSNIT to put together the pension scheme for the cocoa farmer.
