Odeneho Kweku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has won the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairmanship race, securing the mandate to lead the party in the region
COKA secured 658 votes to emerge victorious in the keenly contested chairmanship race, defeating his main contender, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu.
The election, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, formed part of the NPP’s nationwide regional executive elections as the party reorganises its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
COKA’s victory marks a return to the Ashanti Regional chairmanship position, having previously served in the leadership of the party in the region.
He entered the contest with a campaign centred on strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, promoting unity and improving mobilisation across the region.
During his campaign, COKA said his ambition was to help rebuild the NPP in the Ashanti Region and position the party for victory in the next general election. He had also stated that his mission was to contribute to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential ambition and strengthen the party’s organisational base.
COKA is therefore expected to lead efforts to unite the party’s various factions, strengthen constituency structures and mobilise supporters ahead of the next national elections.
His victory comes despite a stakeholder perception survey released shortly before the election, which had placed Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu ahead of COKA.
The survey, conducted among 841 stakeholders across the region, gave Kokofu an overall perception rating of 80.6 percent, compared with 19.4 percent for COKA.
The election result has consequently overturned the expectations suggested by the survey and handed COKA the responsibility of leading the NPP’s regional organisation at a critical stage of the party’s rebuilding process.
