The Education Unit of the Bono-East Regional Command, in a bid to foster collaboration with sister agencies, conducted an engagement session on the dangers and effects of drug abuse with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
NCO Mahama Sulemana, Head of the Education Unit, led the session, outlining the mandate and operations of the Narcotics Control Commission both nationwide and within the region.
He took the opportunity to educate the GNFS officers on the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 1019 (Act 2020), emphasizing the enhanced powers and provisions under the law.
During the presentation, the officers were briefed on various drugs of concern, including Cannabis, Heroin, Cocaine, and Ecstasy, along with the different methods used to conceal these substances.
NCO Sulemana also highlighted the severe consequences of drug abuse on individuals, communities, and the country at large.
In addition, he raised awareness about the dangers of certain legal but harmful substances like alcohol, shisha, super glue, and snuff.
ACFO II Rev. Naomi Ofori-Adubea Sarpong, the Regional Commander of the GNFS, urged her officers to engage in open discussions with colleagues who may be struggling with substance abuse, stressing the importance of addressing issues early to prevent escalation.
She called on her team to join efforts in combating drug abuse to ensure their loved ones lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
Rev. Sarpong reaffirmed her support for the Narcotics Control Commission, expressing her department’s readiness to collaborate in the fight against drug abuse at any time.
