The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Sam Nartey George, has called on the leadership of ICT Professionals to support the Ministry’s Girls In ICT Program.
This program aims to empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICT.
The Girls-In-ICT initiative is part of a global effort to encourage girls and women to pursue careers in technology. In Ghana, the program has been implemented since 2012, with the goal of bridging the gender digital gap and promoting digital inclusion.
The Minister made this call when the leadership from the ICT professionals paid a courtesy call on him on Friday, 21st February 2025.
Some key objectives of the program include
1. Promoting education and career development: Encouraging girls to pursue studies in sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
2. Providing training and mentorship: Offering training and mentorship opportunities to help girls develop skills in ICT.
3. Addressing the gender digital gap: Working to reduce the gap in digital literacy and access to technology between girls and boys.
The Ministry has made significant progress in implementing the program, with over 12,000 girls trained in basic computer skills and other ICT programs since its inception in 2012.
