The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation is making significant strides in fostering entrepreneurship and technological advancement through the Ghana Innovation and Startup Bill.
In a recent meeting, the Ministry engaged with Kofi Ocloo, Vice President of Heritors Labs, alongside his team and consultants from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), to discuss the bill’s development and implementation.
The bill is designed to create a supportive framework for startups and innovators, positioning Ghana as a hub for digital transformation and business growth.
Mr. Ocloo presented evidence-based reports that provide critical insights into Ghana’s current innovation landscape, laying the groundwork for the bill’s refinement.
A structured three-step review process has been agreed upon, ensuring broad-based stakeholder input. The bill will first be reviewed at the committee level, followed by zonal consultations, and finally, a national-level validation before being presented to Parliament.
This inclusive approach ensures that voices from various sectors contribute to shaping the future of Ghana’s startup ecosystem.
Mr. Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with Heritors Labs and CSIR to finalize the bill. The Ministry aims to activate the review process by May 2025, ensuring that the legislation is presented before Parliament’s upcoming recess.
The Ghana Innovation and Startup Bill represents a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward digital transformation. It aims to enhance innovation, provide structured support for startups, and incorporate input from key industry players and government agencies. By establishing a clear policy framework, the bill will help create a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem and drive economic growth through innovation.
