The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional area, Yagbonwura Soale Bii- Kunuto Jewu to seek his consent and blessings for the Girls-In-ICT (GIICT) program in the Savannah Region.
“The reason why we are here is to seek your consent and blessing to continue with the training of our GIICT program”.
She said, “It is important that as the world develops, we roll out a lot of digital initiatives for our young girls to be part of it”.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful mentioned the establishment of a 40-seater ICT lab benefiting four schools in the region under the World Bank Project and promised to come back for its commissioning when completed.
She briefed the Yagbonwura on the GIICT program and its benefits and the need to encourage young girls to learn ICT skills.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful the Yagbonwura of the upcoming Mentorship and Climax events as well as the commissioning of some rural telephony sites in the region
In his response, Yagbonwura Soale Bii-Kunuto Jewu expressed appreciation to the Minister for expanding the GIICT program to the Savannah region.
He was hopeful that the program would impact more girls in the region and improve their level of ICT skills in the region.
