The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) is making significant progress in promoting the National Girls-In-ICT (GIICT) Programme in the Ashanti Region.
Under the leadership of Naa Korkoi Essah, the Ministry’s Head of Public Relations, various media engagements in Kumasi have been conducted to highlight the benefits of the program.
The Girls-In-ICT Programme, themed “Leadership,” aims to bridge the gender digital divide by equipping young girls with essential ICT skills, boosting their confidence, and preparing them for future opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The training modules offered by the program are comprehensive. They cover computer programming, which teaches girls the basics of coding and software development, and game development, which introduces them to the fundamentals of game design and creation.
The program also includes animation, where participants learn digital storytelling and animation techniques. Girls are taught programming concepts using Scratch, a beginner-friendly platform, and website development, where they learn how to build and design websites.
Additionally, the program provides foundational digital skills that ensure essential digital literacy for all participants.
Richard Asiamah, Regional Manager for the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), emphasized the government’s dedication to closing the gender digital divide and highlighted GIFEC’s role in supporting the initiative. Anthoinet Ohene-Amoah, a Web Master and Lecturer at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), noted that the programme has successfully inspired young girls to explore technology and innovation.
This media outreach is part of a broader effort to engage parents, educators, and community leaders, securing ongoing stakeholder support and expanding the programme’s influence nationwide.
