At a private breakfast meeting in Accra, five NPP flagbearer hopefuls assured former President Akufo-Addo of a peaceful, issue-based campaign ahead of the 2026 primaries.

Five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have pledged to run clean, issue-based campaigns ahead of the party’s January 31, 2026, presidential primaries.

The commitment was made during a private breakfast meeting hosted by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at his residence in Nima, Accra, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The meeting, according to a statement issued by Fatimatu Abubakar, spokesperson for the former President, was convened to foster camaraderie and unity among the aspirants and emphasize the importance of party cohesion as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.

Former President Akufo-Addo expressed appreciation to the aspirants for setting aside their busy campaign schedules to engage in constructive dialogue, describing their presence as a reflection of shared commitment to the collective progress of the party.

“I have worked closely with each of you and hold you in high esteem,” the former President stated. “Your contributions to the NPP and the nation are significant, and your candidacies are a testament to merit and service.”

He urged them to maintain a healthy and competitive campaign atmosphere that highlights their vision and policy ideas rather than internal divisions, stressing that his foremost interest remains the unity and strength of the NPP

“My key commitment is to see a united, credible, and energized party, fully prepared to secure victory in 2028,” Akufo-Addo noted.

The statement further indicated that all five aspirants; Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong personally assured the former President of their readiness to maintain a peaceful and respectful campaign.

“In a significant show of solidarity, each of the five aspirants gave their personal assurance, and that of their campaign teams, to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere,” the statement emphasized.

In a collective show of solidarity, the aspirants reaffirmed their commitment to rally behind the eventual winner and help consolidate party unity after the primaries.

“They expressed their commitment and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries,” the statement added.

Former President Akufo-Addo commended their assurances and urged the NPP leadership to ensure a transparent and credible process that would strengthen the party’s internal democracy and cohesion.

“The former President thanked them for their positive engagement and urged the party leadership to ensure a credible and fair process to facilitate the unity of the party after their presidential primaries.”
