Construction of Training School 90% complete – Ghana Immigration Service

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Kwame Asuah Takyi has inspected the second Ghana Immigration Training School currently under construction at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano-North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Kwame Asuah Takyi has inspected the second Ghana Immigration Training School currently under construction at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano-North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

During his visit, he disclosed that, the Training School is currently in an advanced completion stage of 90% and it sits on a 35-acre land which was generously released to the Service by the Omanhene of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem I.

Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi at the project site stated that, ‘the facility will be commissioned this year as a mid-country training school to offer world class regimental training for recruits, as part of the Services’ objective to build the capacity of GIS Officers and ease pressure at Assin-Foso training school.

The CGI extended his appreciation to the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo for authorizing the release of funds through the Finance Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior for the successful establishment of the facility.

“The facility after completion will accommodate about 900 recruits, have an ultra-modern lecture hall with an inbuilt screen projector, audiovisuals and conferencing facilities. It will have both female and male dormitories with washing areas, clinic, administration block, Instructors quarters, Commanding Officer’s residence and a square for drill rehearsals” he added.

Mr. Kwame Asuah Takyi expressed satisfaction with the level of work done so far by the contractor and commended the Tepamanhene on behalf of the Service for the promise to release additional 35-acre land for the construction of the second phase of the project to make it a total of 70 acres of land for the school.

The Omanhene of Tepa, Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem (I) also expressed his satisfaction with the present status of the renovations and constructions works ongoing to suit its intended purpose.

He reassured the contractor and workers on the ground of his full support.

The Regional Commander for the Ahafo Regional Command, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Francis Palmdeti, who now has oversight responsibilities for the Tepa District Command due to its proximity to the Ahafo Regional Headquarters, Goaso, gave a briefing on the ‘before’ status of the project site which used to be the municipal healthcare facility for the community.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for the Ahafo Ano – North, Hon. Martina Appiah Nyantakyi in the company of the Municipal Coordinator, commended the move by the Ghana Immigration Service and especially the Comptroller-General for his leadership and results oriented nature which has seen to the establishment of the second training school in her municipality.

On behalf of the Municipality, she offered to support the Chief and the Service with plans of relocating health workers around the area since the place is now a security zone and won’t be appropriate to have civilians closer to the facility.

The Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Nana Agyeman Prempeh, who is also a sub-Chief of Tepa, encouraged the contractor to construct fire hydrant and install fire extinguishers especially at the kitchen and dormitories of the trainees to prevent any form of disaster when training begins.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Yanator Construction Ghana Limited, Abdulai Yazzeed Natouno assured the Service to handover the project by end of February this year for training sessions to begin.

Accompanying the CGI were Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) and a Member of the GIS Governing Council with oversight responsibility of the Immigration Service Academy and Training School (ISATS), Samuel Ayer, Head of Training, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI), Belinda Adwoa Sika Ogunlana, Head of Administration, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Samuel Basintale, Chief Superintendent, Michael Nketiah, Superintendent Philip Kpende, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) Eric Doudu, Deputy Head of Public Affairs, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Gifty Amgborme.
