A building contractor identified as Clement Annan, also known as Ebo, has been remanded into police custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court over allegations that he threatened to kill a real estate developer and his family.

Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, who presided over the case, declined to grant bail, referencing Section 96(5)(b) of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30).

The court ordered that Annan remain in custody while police expedite investigations ahead of the next hearing, which is set for July 9, 2025.

Annan, who is facing a charge of threat of death under Section 75 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), pleaded not guilty when the case was called.

According to the facts presented by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Abongye, the complainant, Kingsley Owusu-Achaw, an estate developer residing in Dzorwulu, accused the contractor of unlawfully occupying his property located at East Legon.

Owusu-Achaw claimed that Annan initially expressed interest in purchasing the property over seven years ago but failed to follow through with the payment.

Despite not completing the purchase, the accused reportedly took possession of the house without the owner’s consent.

Tensions escalated in 2023 when Annan allegedly threatened the complainant with the chilling words: “If you dare move me from the house, I will kill you and your family and send you to a place you don’t like.”

Fearing for his safety, the complainant reported the incident to the police. Several attempts to arrest the accused failed until June 30, 2025, when he was apprehended at a hideout by officers from the National Operations Directorate of the Ghana Police Service.

During interrogation, Annan is said to have admitted to issuing the threat in the presence of an independent witness. The case is currently under investigation by the Accra Regional Criminal Investigations Department.
