Contractors have filed a lawsuit against the government over unpaid debts, according to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza.
The revelation came during the Minister’s inspection of ongoing and critical road projects in the Ahafo Region. Among the sites visited were the Goaso-Tepa road, Acherensua-Ntotroso road, Kenyasi town roads, and the collapsed Tano Bridge, a key infrastructural concern for locals.
While addressing the media, Minister Agbodza acknowledged the financial difficulties faced by the government but emphasized the urgent need to address the collapsed Tano Bridge.
“We cannot allow the bridge to remain in this state. It’s essential that we act quickly, as the current situation leaves drivers and passengers vulnerable to potential accidents and inconveniences,” he said.
In a show of support for the swift repair of the bridge, Barima Twereku Ampem, the Ntotroso Manhene and President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, appealed to the government to expedite the restoration process.
“We urge the Minister to prioritize the bridge’s repair to relieve the burdens on our people, who rely on this route daily,” he said.
As the legal battle over unpaid debts continues, residents and commuters in Ahafo remain hopeful that the government will fulfill its obligations and ensure the timely completion of critical infrastructure projects.
