The Tamale Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Francis Ayamwuni Asobayire, has convicted a 53-year-old chemical shop operator, Alhaji Abdulai Sayuti, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing and unlawfully selling restricted drugs.
Sentencing has been deferred to Monday, July 21, 2025.
Sayuti, believed to be at the centre of a large-scale illegal drug distribution network in the Northern Region, collapsed in court shortly after entering his plea.
He was arrested following a joint operation by the Police, Narcotics Control Commission, National Security, and the anti-drug taskforce.
During the operation, 368 blisters of Tramadol 120mg and 298 blisters of Tramaking 120mg were retrieved from his over-the-counter chemical shop located near Victory Cinema in Aboabo, Tamale.
Further searches led law enforcement officers to Sayuti’s warehouse at Fuo, where they uncovered 447 boxes of Tramadol 120mg and 11 boxes of Tramaking. The items were seized and retained for evidential purposes.
The arrest, which took place on Tuesday, July 15, followed intelligence received by the Food and Drugs Authority and National Security about the illegal sale of prescription drugs to the public without authorisation.
Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Neindow, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and court proceedings, noting that Sayuti was arraigned the following day and convicted on his own plea.
He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and called on the public to support ongoing efforts by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
