He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with two sureties.

The court, presided over by Ms Susana Eduful, ruled that the sureties must be immediate family members of the accused and earn not less than GH¢1,500 monthly.

The prosecution has been directed to file all disclosures and witness statements ahead of the next hearing.

The case has been adjourned to January 27, 2026.

Prosecution’s Case

Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Akuffo told the court that on December 9, 2025, complainants led by one Simon Nyala arrested the accused at the Kantamanto Market and handed him over to the Regional Police Command.

According to the prosecution, the complainants were on surveillance at the market when they received information that Asare was planning to burn down some shops.

Investigations, the court heard, revealed that the accused told police he decided to set the shops ablaze because some individuals in the market were “worrying” him.

A search conducted in the accused’s room within the market allegedly led to the retrieval of a gallon containing several litres of petrol, which the prosecution said was intended for the act.
