A ranking member on the Public Accounts Committee and the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku has revealed that he will have a discussion with the Member of Parliament for Ketu North who also happens to be the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi to begin to refer cases that are corruption related to the office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in a bid to help fight the corruption menace in the country.

The MP was sharing his opinions on the recent research conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service, Commission on Human Rights And Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and Afrobaromter’s corruption poll which placed the Police Service as the number one avenue for corruption in the country.

“Corruption is something we must be able to uproot in our system and one way of finding out if indeed one is corrupt or not is through research, and that is when you find out, you begin to find ways of plugging the holes. Like the work of the Public Accounts Committee, my motive is not to send anyone to jail. I look out for how the state was able to such monies to individuals so we can enact laws and seal those loopholes and that should be the thinking of the state that how do we ensure that we end corruption and that’s a critical issue we must discuss. I will hold a discussion with my chairman and we’ll begin the refer some corruption-related cases to the Office of Special Prosecutor”, he said while speaking on Republic FM on Monday, August 1.

He argued that every serious organization must make it topmost priority of research reports and make use of those that matter.

He added that he does not think the Police service is that corrupt because the country is seeing a new interface of policing.

“When research comes out, as a government, an organization or whatsoever, you must make use of the reports and ensure that you make recommendations in what was reported about you. For instance, if you talk about corruption and you mention the Police Service, I do not think the police is that corrupt, I don’t think the police is that corrupt. Gradually, we are seeing a new face of policing, concerning Dampare’s capabilities in the police sector, of course, you’d have one or two bad nuts in the system. We have a Divisional Commander who is very competent and when he speaks, you realize that he is a very honest man who knows what he is doing but as I said, when you have such reports based on perception, you must be able to work with and we list to deal with corruption”, he added.
