The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has officially announced the commencement of the nomination process for the upcoming Council of State elections, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 11th February 2025, in all regional capitals across the country.

The announcement was made in a press release dated 22nd January 2025, signed by the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa.

The EC, in accordance with Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution, outlined the process for electing Regional Representatives to the Council of State.

According to EC, qualified candidates are required to submit their nomination forms along with two copies of a recent passport-sized photograph taken against a red background. Submissions will be accepted at the offices of the Regional Directors of the EC from Tuesday, 28th January to Friday, 31st January 2025, during specified hours: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM daily.

Nomination requirements include the endorsement of two registered voters in the candidate’s region, along with support from an additional twenty registered voters. The candidate must also provide consent to their nomination to be eligible for election.

The EC emphasized that nomination forms must be downloaded from its official website (www.ec.gov.gh) and completed in triplicate before submission. The completed forms should be delivered to the designated locations specified by the Regional Directors of the EC.

This year’s elections aim to strengthen Ghana’s democratic governance by selecting key representatives to the Council of State, an advisory body to the President.
