An Accra High Court has postponed the trial of Safina Mohammed Adizatu, a student accused of murdering her Canadian boyfriend, to February 27, 2025.
The adjournment follows the court’s pending instructions from the Chief Justice on the empanelling of a seven-member jury.
Safina, also known as Safina Diamond, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and remains on bail as legal proceedings continue.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on July 24, 2022, when Frank Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian resident in Canada, visited Safina at her residence in Ashalley Botwe School Junction. The pair reportedly spent the night together.
It is alleged that Safina, along with accomplices, stabbed and strangled Osei during his stay. The prosecution claims that the suspects subsequently cleaned the crime scene, leaving the body in the room for 24 hours before dragging it to the gate near his vehicle.
The prosecution added that Safina later contacted the police, reporting that her boyfriend had passed away in her room. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Osei’s body outside her house, leading to her arrest.
Safina remains under investigation.
