The Accra High Court has granted bail to the Bono Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties after hearing his application on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The ruling comes days after the outspoken politician was remanded into the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) by Circuit Court 9 in Accra over allegations of publishing false information.

Abronye DC’s lawyers challenged the remand order at the High Court, arguing that his continued detention was unnecessary and infringed on his rights. The legal team maintained that their client was prepared to cooperate fully with investigators and did not pose any flight risk.

The case has generated intense political debate and public interest following Abronye DC’s rearrest shortly after he had earlier secured bail during ongoing investigations into the matter.

Supporters of the NPP thronged parts of the court premises during proceedings, while party officials openly questioned the circumstances surrounding the handling of the case.

Prior to the High Court’s decision, the NPP criticised the reassignment of the bail application from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two, describing the development as unusual and difficult to understand.

According to party officials, the transfer raised concerns about fairness and transparency in the judicial process. The party further alleged that some state institutions were increasingly being used to intimidate opposition figures ahead of heightened political activities in the country.

Despite the political controversy surrounding the matter, the High Court ultimately admitted Abronye DC to bail pending the continuation of investigations and any further legal proceedings.
