The Kasoa Akweley District Court has granted bail to 18 suspects arrested in connection with the attack on the Nyanyano Palace last Sunday night.
The suspects, charged with causing damage to property, disturbing public peace, and creating fear and panic, made their second appearance before the court on Friday, February 6, 2026.
During proceedings, the prosecution amended the charge sheet and applied for an extension of the suspects’ initial remand period to allow for further investigations.
However, counsel for the accused opposed the request, arguing that the prosecution could not repeatedly seek extensions and that the suspects were entitled to bail.
Presided over by Her Worship Ama Adomako-Kwakye, the court admitted to bail 15 suspects who were first arraigned last Monday, along with three others arrested subsequently. Each suspect was granted bail in the sum of GHS60,000 with one surety.
The court further ordered the accused persons to report to the Gomoa Nyanyano Police Station every Monday and Thursday as part of their bail conditions.
The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2026, for the next hearing.
Counsel for the accused persons, Emmanuel Sarfo, spoke to Citi News after the court proceedings.
…The prosecution will not take the plea because they say they are not done with investigations. But they cannot always make the court an extension of their investigation, and under the law, every accused person is entitled to bail.”
