All 27 suspects arrested in connection with the Abetifi chieftaincy disturbances have been granted bail by the Mpraeso Circuit Court.
The Presiding Judge, Her Ladyship Adwoa Akyamaah Ofosu, set the bail amount at GH¢200,000 with two sureties, including one with justification.
The case, which involves the alleged abduction of the Chief of Abetifi, Nana Akyeamfour Asiedu Agyeman II, has been adjourned to December 19, 2024, for further proceedings.
The accused individuals had previously been denied bail two weeks ago. However, during today’s hearing, their counsel, Captain (Rtd.) Lawyer Nkrabeah Effah Darteh, successfully appealed for their release.
Following the decision, Lawyer Effah Darteh commended the court, stating: “The law is working, and the judge has been fair.
She listened to both sides and applied the law. I am happy that the 27 people have been admitted to court bail. Everything must be resolved in the courtroom; there is no need for violence anywhere.”
The suspects are expected to reappear in court as the case unfolds.
