In the case involving Ama Governor and eight other Democracy Hub protesters, Judge Comfort Tasiameh heard a motion for bail pending trial.
The protesters, represented by lawyer Worlanyo Dennis, faced opposition from State Attorney Amanda Awadi. Initially, the prosecution had filed a motion for an abridgement of time on September 26 but later withdrew it, leading the court to strike out the motion.
The defense proceeded with their bail application, highlighting key provisions in their motion, particularly from Paragraphs 4, 5, 9, 14, 15, and 16. The State Attorney opposed the application, submitting an affidavit and relying on all the points made in their case.
Despite the prosecution’s opposition, the court granted bail to all the protesters. Each was admitted to bail at GH₵70,000 with two sureties.
The defendants are also required to report to the police once a week and provide their Ghana Cards as part of the bail conditions.
The trial will proceed with the court monitoring the defendants’ compliance with the bail terms.
