The Asokore-Mampong District court in the Ashanti region has granted bail to the 43 students involved in the Krobea Asante Vocational Training Institute at Effiduase in the Sekyere East District.
The students appeared before the court on January 24 and were remanded in police custody to reappear today.
The court presided over by Mr. Samuel Buabin Quansah granted each student GHโต 2,000 bail with a surety to justify and were directed to the Effiduase Police once every week until the next appearance in court.
The students were also directed to sign a bond of good behaviour.
In court, the prosecutor, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr. Kofi Blagodzi said four more students were arrested in connection to the riot hence the number.
He added that, the police is also conducting forensic tests and investigations on the properties destroyed during the riots and pleaded with the court to give the police more time to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Police arrested the students on Sunday, January 22, 2023, during a riot that resulted in the destruction of school and private properties.
The students were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful entry stealing and damage.
All 43 students together with parents and guardians were in court today and expected to reappear on March 2, 2023.
