A Circuit Court in Dansoman, presided over by Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, has granted bail to Ernest Oti Arthur, a 31-year-old Warehouse Manager, who is accused of stealing electronic appliances valued at GH¢72,130 from Electroland Ghana Limited.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960, Act 29.
Oti Arthur was granted bail in the sum of GH¢80,000 with three sureties, all of whom must be public servants earning a minimum of GH¢5,000 per month and residing within the court’s jurisdiction. The sureties must also provide justification for their assets.
As part of the bail conditions, the accused is required to deposit his Ghana Card with the court registry and report to the court every two weeks until further notice.
The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2025, with the prosecution directed to file all necessary processes before the next sitting.
Case Background
The incident came to light on January 6, 2025, during an annual stock review at Electroland Ghana Limited. The complainant, Tandoh Zachariah, a retail manager at the company, uncovered significant discrepancies in the warehouse inventory.
Investigations revealed that Oti Arthur had allegedly placed unauthorized orders for electronic appliances, including televisions, stabilizers, air conditioners, and sound systems, between December 12 and December 30, 2024.
Further inquiries at the Spintex branch of Electroland revealed that the accused had ordered two 43-inch televisions under the name “Kwaku,” an individual yet to be identified.
Oti Arthur also reportedly admitted to stealing two Samsung A15 mobile phones but could not account for their whereabouts.
The police concluded that the total value of the stolen items amounted to GH¢72,130. However, the accused denied receiving the items listed in the unauthorized orders.
Following his arrest and subsequent investigations, Oti Arthur was charged with stealing and brought before the Circuit Court.
The prosecution is expected to present its case and file all disclosures ahead of the next court date.
