The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court has granted an extension of time to lawyers of Charles Bissue to file written submissions in the case involving the Special Prosecutor.

Former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue is seeking an enforcement of his fundamental human rights against the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Charles Bissue is therefore seeking the Court to cancel the Arrest Warrant issued against the Applicant by the 2nd Respondent to the 1st Respondent, Quash the 1st Respondent’s Notice, declaring the Applicant wanted.

Also he wants the Court to compel the 1st Respondent to comply with the provisions of L.I. 2374 by providing the Applicant with a copy of the Petitions, forming the basis of the investigations being conducted by the 1st Respondent in respect of which the Applicant is deemed to be a necessary person.

Prohibit the 1st Respondent, pending the determination of Suit No. J/0328/2023, from applying for Arrest Warrants and hounding the Applicant in the name of investigations.

On December 6, 2023, the Court directed both parties to file their written submissions before Monday, January 15, 2024 but on Monday January 15, lawyer for Charles Bissue appeared in court on clutches and prayed the court for an extension to file his client’s written submission as he was hampered by an injury he suffered to his leg during the period.

The Court presided over by Justice Abodakpi granted the request and also directed state attorneys to ensure that they serve their processes on other parties.

The case has been adjourned to February 1, 2024.
