Ghana’s Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged the convicted former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, after ruling that the prosecution failed to prove its case against her beyond reasonable doubt.

Presiding Judge Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, delivering the court’s decision on Thursday, July 30, said the evidence presented by the prosecution was insufficient to establish the alleged offences.

Madam Tamakloe Attionu was facing multiple charges, including causing financial loss to the state, theft, unauthorised commitment resulting in financial obligation for the government and money laundering.

She was tried alongside former MASLOC Board Chair Daniel Axim, who was also accused of offences related to the operations of the institution.

The prosecution had alleged that between 2013 and 2016, during Madam Tamakloe Attionu’s tenure as CEO, MASLOC funds were misapplied through various transactions, resulting in financial loss to the state.

Madam Tamakloe Attionu was convicted in absentia in 2024 on charges including causing financial loss to the state and conspiracy.

She was later extradited to Ghana in June 2026 to begin serving her sentence before the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction and acquitted her.
