An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of King Teye Ahwa III, who faces charges of defrauding by false pretenses in a GH₵336,500 land transaction.
The warrant follows accusations that he deceived Simon Kofi Ohene, a hotelier from Nungua, into parting with a Mercedes Benz valued at $20,000 (approximately GH₵ 320,000) and an additional GH₵ 16,500 in cash for a fraudulent land lease.
Chief Inspector Princess Tetteh Boafo reported that the incident dates back to 2012 when Ohene was searching for land for a project. King Teye Ahwa III, a businessman and chief of Agomeda Mantseman Ologotsowe, allegedly presented himself as the owner of land in Shai Hills. He took Ohene to view a parcel off the Tema-Akosombo Highway, assuring him it was his property.
Convinced, Ohene transferred ownership of his Mercedes Benz CLK Convertible (2002 model) and paid GH₵ 10,000 as a deposit for two acres, later adding GH₵6,500 for documentation fees.
However, when he attempted to begin development, Ohene discovered multiple claimants disputing his ownership of the land. Attempts to resolve the issue with King Teye Ahwa III reportedly failed.
Ohene then reported the case to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest. During questioning, King Teye Ahwa III allegedly admitted receiving the vehicle and cash but failed to produce proof of ownership or legitimate access to the land.
Further investigations revealed that King Teye Ahwa III directed Ohene to multiple plots, each of which was already claimed by others, leading police to conclude that he had no legal ownership of any of the properties in question.
The court has set December 18, 2024, as the next hearing date while proceedings continue
