An Accra Circuit Court has directed the Ghana Police Service to carry out a pregnancy test on controversial preacher and founder of Heaven Way Church, Patricia Asiedua, also known as Nana Agradaa, as legal proceedings against her near judgment.
The directive was issued by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah, the presiding judge, during a hearing held on Monday.
Agradaa, who has been standing trial since October 2022, faces multiple charges including defrauding by false pretences and engaging in charlatanic advertisement — offences under Ghana’s criminal code.
The pregnancy test order comes at a critical point in the case, as the court prepares to deliver its final judgment. The outcome of the test is expected to play a role in determining whether immediate custodial sentencing would be appropriate should she be found guilty.
Agradaa was arrested in 2022 following widespread complaints from members of the public, many of whom claimed she lured them into donating money through deceptive television broadcasts and religious rituals.
She was accused of promising financial miracles in exchange for cash offerings.
When reporter from Republic Press arrived at the courtroom ahead of the expected judgment, her husband, Pastor Angel Asiamah, was observed pacing the court premises while making multiple phone calls.
His demeanor appeared tense, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding the pending verdict.
The case has drawn intense public attention due to Agradaa’s notoriety as a former fetish priestess who publicly converted to Christianity and later launched a church ministry.
Her transformation and subsequent controversies have kept her in the national spotlight, with ongoing debate over the authenticity of her religious work and the legal consequences of her actions.
Further developments in the case are expected following the completion of the court-ordered pregnancy test and the anticipated ruling.
