An Accra High court has remanded two persons into police custody for stealing and abetment of crime.
The accused persons, a fuel attendant, Anthony Abeiku aged 22 and Mahuya Ibrahim a 65-year-old scrap dealer have been accused of stealing and buying stolen items in Ashaiman, Tema and Accra.
The prosecution said the complainant, Mr. Perry Kwadwo Adade, a banker lived in Sakumuno while the accused persons lived in Ashaiman.
The prosecution added that in June 2022, Mr. Adade returned from work and realized someone had broken into his room.
According to the prosecution, Mr. Adade realized that some items such as a 55-inch Samsung Television worth GH₵ 5,000, a 40-inch TV worth GH₵ 3.500, a Dell laptop worth GH₵ 5,000, a tablet worth GH₵ 2,000 and three wrist watches had been stolen.
Mr. Adade then reported the incident at the Sakumuno police station and an investigation was conducted into the matter.
The prosecution further stated that, on December 24, 2022, Abeiku who had served his prison term at the Nsawam prison was arrested for partaking in a series of stealing with Ahmed in Ashaiman, Tema and Accra.
Abeiku admitted his offences and disclosed that Ahmed had also been involved in several criminal cases.
Ibrahim, the other accused also admitted that he has been a regular buyer of Abeiku and Ahmed’s stolen goods.
The case is still under investigation as the accused persons are assisting the police to trace their accomplices and other places they have operated.
Meanwhile, Ahmed, the accomplice in the case is currently on the run and has also been charged with three counts of stealing and crime abetment
The case has been adjourned to January 16, 2023.
