Gordon Bomeh, a 34-year-old nurse, has been remanded by the Circuit Court in Accra for allegedly defrauding a fellow nurse of GH¢98,000 under the guise of securing enlistment slots into various state security services.
Bomeh, who pleaded not guilty to three counts of defrauding by false pretense, is being held in police custody until January 15, 2025, as ordered by the presiding judge, Mrs. Susana Eduful.
The prosecution was led by ASP Issah Achibure, while Kassim Tanko represented the accused.
According to the prosecution, Bomeh is accused of defrauding the complainant, Emmanuel Domanang Ngmendaa, on three separate occasions in 2023.
The first instance involved the collection of GH¢18,500 to purportedly secure protocol recruitment for two family members into the Ghana Police Service.
In the second instance, Bomeh allegedly took GH¢44,500 to facilitate the recruitment of six individuals into the Ghana Immigration Service.
The third case involved GH¢17,500, which Bomeh claimed would secure enlistment slots for two individuals into the Ghana Prison Service.
The complainant, a nurse based in Kasoa Ojobi, said Bomeh assured him he could secure protocol slots into the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prison Service, and Ghana Armed Forces, with fees ranging between GH¢7,000 and GH¢8,000 per slot.
Trusting these promises, Mr. Ngmendaa transferred a total of GH¢98,000 to Bomeh via two mobile money accounts.
After receiving the money, Bomeh reportedly cut off all communication with the complainant and could not be located.
On July 25, 2024, the complainant reported the matter to the police.
During investigations, Bomeh admitted to receiving the money and named a man identified as Frank Osei as his accomplice.
However, he failed to assist investigators in locating Osei, and no evidence of any recruitment activities was found.
Subsequently, Bomeh was charged with defrauding by false pretense, and the case is set for further proceedings.
