An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Charity Bimpong, a 32-year-old wife of a police officer for allegedly assaulting Mercy Nsoh, a colleague at the Osu police barracks.
Chief Inspector Georgina Ama Agbodeka told the court that, Mercy, the complainant and Charity, the accused both traders live at the Osu police barracks.
Narrating what led to the assault, the prosecution said the accused and the complainant were engaged in a fight on January 2, 2023, and were later separated.
The prosecution continued that, the next day, Charity who knew the complainant has been going to the market at dawn, allegedly armed herself with a piece of wood and hid at a drinking spot near the Osu police barracks to wait for her.
According to the prosecution, the complainant upon reaching the drinking spot was allegedly hit with the wood by the accused on the head and she fell into a nearby gutter.
It said that a witness in the case who saw the accused sitting at the said spot earlier heard the complainant shouting for help and rushed to the scene but the accused had thrown the piece of wood away and took to her heels.
However, the witness identified the accused person as the culprit in court.
The prosecution indicated that another witness who also saw the accused running away, approached her and the accused person showed him her eye and stated that she was also injured by the complainant the day before in a fight hence the revenge on the complainant.
The second witness then rushed to the scene and found the complainant with a swollen forehead.
The accused was arrested to assist in investigations but denied the offense in her caution statement.
The Court presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah however asked the accused to return to court on January 18, 2023
