A 19-year-old factory handworker at the Kaneshie Industrial Area has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of murder.

Michael Tetteh was found guilty after a seven-member jury panel returned a unanimous guilty verdict against him after a full trial.

The convict was said to have stabbed a 19-year-old boy Patrick Gyasi with a broken bottle on the chest after a disagreement between the two on June 16, 2018, at Oduman in the Ga West municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

With parliament amending the death penalty law to allow murder suspects found guilty of their crimes to serve a life sentence in prison, the Court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, handed the 19-year-old life imprisonment.

In court on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the convict broke down in tears and asked the court to have mercy on him before being carried away to begin his life sentence.
