An Accra High Court has dismissed the contempt case against the Adansi Asokwa Member of Parliament and Minister for Trade and Industries, Kobina Tahir Hammond.
It would be recalled that the Trades and Industry Minister was accused of making comments in a media interview that were deemed prejudicial to the criminal case against Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson, who is facing charges of dual citizenship.
However, in court on Thursday, October 19, 2023, the court presided over by Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, dismissed the case noting that enough evidence was not provided to secure a conviction.
Justice Mary stressed that “the full complement of what K.T. Hammond was reported to have said was not produced adding: “It was incumbent on the applicant to exhibit the full interview.”
She also ruled that KT Hammond’s comments were not intended to interfere with the criminal case against Quayson.
Gyakye Quayson is currently facing charges of forgery and perjury in relation to certain alleged offences leading to the 2020 Assin North parliamentary election where he was announced the winner.
He has however pleaded not guilty to five counts of forgery of passport or travel certificate, knowingly making a false statutory declaration, perjury and false declaration for office.
