The High Court in Obuasi has thrown out an election petition filed by former Trade and Industry Minister, Kobina Tahiru (K.T.) Hammond, against the victory of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani in the Adansi Asokwa parliamentary race.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Justice Kwabena Twumasi dismissed the case and fined Hammond ¢60,000, describing the petition as a waste of the court’s time.

Hammond, who represented the constituency in Parliament for several terms, lost his seat in the 2024 general elections after securing 13,275 votes, against Dorani’s 14,229—a margin of 954 votes.

Dissatisfied with the result, he filed a petition at the Obuasi High Court on January 15, 2025.

However, the court proceeded to judgment after Hammond failed to appear for hearings on three consecutive occasions.

Speaking to journalists after the ruling, counsel for the MP, Richard Andy, said the petition lacked legal merit.

He added that the decision would enable his client, Mr. Dorani, to fully concentrate on delivering on his parliamentary mandate.
