The opposition has reiterated its rejection of the recent Covid-19 expenditure accounts being rendered by the government and the Finance Minister to Ghanaians in the floor of Parliament.

The NDC believes that the finance Minister hasn’t lived up to expectations as far as revenues and expenditure of covid-19 funds in Ghana is concerned.

Speaking to Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic Fm on Friday, June 24, an Eastern Regional communications member of the NDC, Innocent Kofi Adanyah rejected the Finance minister’s account and said, there has been some malicious and inconsistencies in the accounts provided by the finance minister.

He is of the view that the finance minister’s accountability to Parliament and Ghanaians are not transparent enough.

Citing some misappropriation of monies made from Covid-19, he said, “This government went to IMF, a loan Ghana has never taken before, $1B. They told us world Bank gave us $100m in which the World Bank country director exposed them that the government was given more than $100m but what I don’t understand is the fact that, a money that has been loaned to the country will be reduced, and what did they want to do with the remainder?

To me it is unethical for the world bank country director to go that far to dispute the figure the government mentioned but that is one of the disgrace of the President and his government”, he said.

According to him, he does not fathom why the government would not fail to account to the people for the past three months.

He said, the government’s posture for Ghanaians to accept the Finance minister’s covid-19 expenditure accounts cannot be accepted in anyway.

The NDC communication member believes that with the attitude and caliber of the current politicians the country has, the next generation learning from them will be worse.

“I’m talking from the Bible perspective. The new generation coming up, there’s an adage that, subordinates learn from their leaders and if things are happening like these, our generation will do worse than these and that is why some of us have been consistent that Accountability and transparency must work and if transparency works, the generation will learn something good from it”, he stated.

He criticized the finance minister’s consistent failure to appear before the Parliament as one that can be compared to a military regime.

He further said, President Akufo-Addo’s covid-19 figures of ¢17.7billion at the 2021 SONA does not correspond with what the Vice President Dr. Bawumia said at his meeting with TEWU that the country has spent ¢18.8 billion on Covid-19.
