The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has publicly announced its decision to withdraw from the upcoming Ejisu by-election on April 30, 2024.

In a statement addressed to the regional director of the Electoral Commission (EC) by the party’s Ashanti regional secretary, Issah Abdul Salam disclosed that the decision comes after a meeting by the regional executive to discuss the party’s chances in the by-election and the way forward in terms of reorganisation.

Abdul Salam further noted that no one will be allowed to contest in the name or on behalf of the CPP in the by-election.

“I have been directed by the regional chairman to officially inform your office that the CPP is not interested and will not contest in the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu.”

“Hence, no one is allowed to contest in the name or on behalf of the CPP in the by-election in Ejisu,” he stated.

Following the death of the Former Member of Parliament for Ejisu, , John Ampontuah Kumah, nominations have been opened to all political parties to submit their eligible candidates to contest for a by-election in the constituency, however, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and All People’s Congress (APC) have all announced they will not partake in the upcoming by-election.
