Veteran journalist and President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah, has offered his advice to head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, urging him to be someone who will accept criticism.
He said this at a press conference at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters when Otto Addo named the 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
While acknowledging that coaching the Black Stars is a challenging job, Mr. Yeboah said that Ghanaians’ criticism simply shows how much the team means to them.
“There are two very difficult jobs in Ghana. Number one, the President of Ghana and the coach of the Black Stars,” he said.
“You are the official coach but the real coaches are here. So, the criticisms will come in, some will be caustic, some will be very vitriolic, some will be vituperative but in all that just relax and understand that as journalists, we mean well so don’t take the criticisms personal but they will come in fast and thick because you’ve heard some of the tactics and systems already coming from some of the colleagues. Whether you’re gonna play the rout system or the Mourinho system, so they will definitely come but in all that just understand that we’re in this together and we want to see the good of the team,” he added.
Otto Addo will be in charge of the team when they face Mali on June 6 in Bamako, before they travel back to Ghana to play against Central Africa Republic with the stakes really high for Ghana.
