The Acting Executive Director of Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako has stated that the Authority is opened to partner with institutions both government and private to ensure that Ghana’s digital space are sanitised.
According to Dr. Antwi-Boasiako, the CSA Act 2020, Act 1038 mandates the authority to regulate cybersecurity activities and promote the development of cybersecurity in the country.
He made these statement last Tuesday, January 25, 2020, during a courtesy call by the Executive Director of Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah few weeks after her appointment to head the investigative body.
Dr Antwi-Boasiako said “your appointment to head EOCO, is an indication of the importance you attach to cybercrime and cybersecurity matters and most importantly, your keen interest to collaborate with the CSA to address cybercrime challenges facing the country.”
He stated that Section 13 of the Act makes EOCO member of the Joint Cybersecurity Committee (JCC) which provides the legal framework for cooperation among state agencies and also with non-state agencies to respond to cybersecurity challenges.
Again, Dr. Antwi-Boasiako said the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804), mandates them institutions to deal with organised crime and as one is aware, most organised crimes are becoming cancer-related.
He said the laws mandate EOCO to build capacity in the area of cybercrime investigations and digital forensics to be able to effectively deliver on this critical roles.
CSA was established in October 1, 202, to regulate cybersecurity activities and promote it development as well as support law enforcement and security agencies to carry out their legal mandates in addressing cybercrime and cybersecurity challenges.
He said Sections 69 to 77 of the Act, also allow law enforcement agencies to access data from relevant service providers to support lawful investigative activities and so “we are open to sharing ideas and expertise with you to ensure we win the fight against cybercrime in Ghana.”
“The Cybersecurity Act, 2020 has also improved the data retention regime for law enforcement purposes and the CSA will be working closely with EOCO and other agencies represented on the JCC to enforce Section 77 of Act 1038,” he added.
Dr. Antwi-Boasiako said to enhance collaboration between CSA and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies, CSA has established the Law Enforcement Liaison Unit to coordinate it’s operations with other security services.
She, again said the two bodies are partnering to ensure that each achieve its core mandate of enforcing laws that would protect the digital space.
