The Minister for the Interior has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Binduri Township and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region following a deadly gun attack that claimed three lives and left three others injured.

A statement from the Ministry, shared via its official Facebook page, announced that the curfew takes effect from Monday, March 24, 2025, between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am.

The decision, taken on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils, aims to curb escalating tensions and prevent further violence in the area.

The attack occurred on Sunday night, March 24, near the Binduri market, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to security sources, unidentified assailants stormed a local drinking spot on motorbikes and opened fire, killing three people on the spot.

Three others sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, investigators suspect it may be linked to the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has fueled sporadic violence in the region.

Security agencies have launched a full-scale investigation and are working to apprehend the perpetrators.

In addition to the curfew, the government has imposed a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within the Binduri Township.

The wearing of smocks and the riding of motorbikes have also been prohibited — measures often enforced in conflict-prone areas due to their use in concealing weapons and facilitating swift attacks.

Residents have been urged to exercise restraint and use non-violent means to resolve disputes. Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth have been called upon to channel their efforts into maintaining peace in the area.

This latest attack has heightened fears among locals, with many calling for an increased security presence and stronger measures to prevent further bloodshed.
