President Akufo-Addo has refuted claims that Ghana’s current economic difficulties will have an impact on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chances of remaining in power in the 2024 general elections.
Asked whether he is concerned about the country’s economic challenges and the difficulties facing Ghanaians and whether it has a potential of making his party leave office in the next election, he said there is enough time for his party to work hard to bring the economy back on the track.
Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum, President Akufo-Addo said “I think that the global situation has not been kind to incumbent governments all over the world, and our situation will be no different but at the same time, I believe that we have enough time”.
“We have eighteen months, I will leave office in January 25, which is literally nineteen months from now.
To be able with a very disciplined approach to the implementation of the IMF program, the reposition of our economy, to be able to bring some growth back into the economy, some relief back to our population, to be able to convince them yes, its worth continuing the journey with my party and the new leader of our party who we will choose in November this year,” he said stressed.
