Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians and key stakeholders following the announcement of his replacement.
In a statement issued on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare thanked the Almighty God and the people of Ghana for their prayers, blessings, and support during his tenure.
He acknowledged the overwhelming outpouring of love and goodwill he has received in the wake of his departure.
Dr. Dampare extended his deep appreciation to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve as IGP, making history as the youngest to hold the position in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
He also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for their cordial working relationship during their brief time together.
Additionally, he recognized the contributions of religious and traditional leaders, whose prayers and wisdom provided guidance throughout his leadership.
He also commended the heads of sister security agencies for their cooperation and support.
Dr. Dampare acknowledged the role of civil society organizations, the international community, and diplomatic missions in providing constructive feedback and engagement throughout his tenure.
Reflecting on his 35-year career with the Ghana Police Service, Dr. Dampare expressed pride in rising through the ranks from General Constable to IGP, holding various director-general positions, and serving the institution with dedication.
He lauded the efforts of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the rank and file of the service for their unwavering commitment to maintaining security, law, and order.
As he exits the police leadership, Dr. Dampare reaffirmed his dedication to Ghana, emphasizing his continued willingness to serve the nation with discipline, honour, and integrity.
