A 35-year-old businessman, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, has been remanded into lawful custody by the Madina District Court in connection with the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

Koranteng is to remain in custody until April 1, 2025.

Koranteng was arrested on March 15, 2025, six years after Suale’s death for allegedly selling the journalist’s photographs to Kennedy Agyapong. These photographs were subsequently made public, a move many believe led to Suale’s tragic death.

In court on Wednesday, March 19, Police Prosecutor Chief Inspector Nana Afiabamfoa Bamfo requested that Koranteng be remanded as investigations were ongoing.

According to the prosecutor, the accused admitted to selling Suale’s photographs to Agyapong.

However, Defense Counsel Kofi Essel argued for bail, stating that Koranteng had persons of sufficient means to stand as sureties.

Presiding Magistrate, Her Worship Susanna Nyarkotey, questioned the direct link between selling the photographs and the murder charge, to which the prosecutor responded that the charge sheet could be amended as investigations progress.

Koranteng is currently facing a provisional charge of murder, but his plea has not yet been taken.
