In a historic move, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong as the new Chief Fire Officer (CFO) of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), making her the first woman ever to hold the prestigious position. The announcement was made on March 14, 2025.

Until her appointment, Ntow Sapong served as the Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) and Director of Fire Safety, roles in which she distinguished herself through her unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership.

She takes over from Mr. Julius Aalebkure Kuunuor, who had been at the helm of the GNFS since October 7, 2021, following his appointment by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Ntow Sapong’s elevation to the highest rank in the Service marks a significant milestone, not just for her career but for the GNFS as a whole.

Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong has made history as the first-ever female Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), marking a transformative moment in the organization’s leadership.

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, she has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, resilience, and leadership in fire safety, emergency response, and administrative governance.

Since her enlistment into the Service on November 1, 1992, as a Cadet Officer, and her commissioning as an officer on August 6, 1993, she has risen through the ranks with unwavering commitment, amassing 32 years of extensive expertise in fire safety, crisis management, and institutional development.

Her appointment as Chief Fire Officer is a testament to her trailblazing contributions and serves as an inspiration to future generations of leaders in emergency services.
CFO Mawusi’s extensive career reflects a legacy of excellence, resilience, and visionary leadership, shaping the future of fire safety in Ghana.

With a Master of Arts in Human Resource Development (MA-HRD) and a distinguished academic background from prestigious institutions such as the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and the University of Cape Coast (UCC), she has consistently demonstrated expertise in organizational development, capacity building, and public service administration.

Her professional journey has been defined by strategic leadership, policy restructuring, and innovative reforms that have significantly enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of the Ghana National Fire Service.
