A 24-year-old dispatch rider, Daniel Asiuebi, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the Dansoman Circuit Court for robbing the Secretary to the Namibian High Commissioner in Ghana.

Asiuebi pleaded guilty simpliciter to two counts of robbery and causing unlawful damage when he first appeared before Her Honour Nancy Teiko Searyoh. He was sentenced during his second appearance on April 1, 2026.

Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, presenting the facts to the court, explained that the victim, Ms. Anneli Niinpungu Ananyanga, was walking along a street in the Airport Residential Area on February 23, 2026, at about 8:35 a.m., when Asiuebi, riding a black Royal 125A motorbike (registration M-25-GW 2512), forcefully snatched her handbag and sped off.

The stolen bag contained valuable items, including an iPhone 15 Pro Max, a Huawei P50 Pro, a Green Lion earpod, a purse, various identification and banking cards, Namibian and Ghanaian diplomatic documents, keys, business cards, and cash totaling GH¢500 and 160 Namibian dollars, with an estimated value of GH¢36,176.00.

Police investigations led to the recovery of the iPhone at Agbogbloshie from one Miracle Asare, who was arrested, and subsequently traced other stolen phones to dealers at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Dansoman. The dealers identified Asiuebi as the person who sold the devices, prompting his arrest.

In his caution statement, Asiuebi admitted to committing the robbery, stating that he sold the stolen phones to meet personal needs and burned the remaining items. He also confessed to similar robberies at Kaneshie, Achimota, and the Airport Residential Area on previous occasions.

After reviewing Asiuebi’s plea and the evidence, the court handed down a 10-year jail term, sending a stern message against robbery and crimes targeting diplomatic personnel.
