The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces through discipline, modernization, and enhanced troop welfare.

During an All Ranks durbar held at Burma Camp on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Dr. Boamah engaged openly with officers, soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff of Garrisons 1 and 5. He praised their bravery and professionalism while urging them to maintain high standards and discipline in service to the nation.

He strongly condemned the recent destruction of a cherished statue in Bawku and the shooting of two soldiers in the area, promising government support for rebuilding efforts and appropriate sanctions for those involved.

Dr. Boamah also warned against soldiers engaging in unauthorized guard duties, calling on the Military High Command to clamp down on the practice.

To encourage ethical conduct, he made a personal donation of GH¢10,000 to a soldier who refused a bribe during anti-galamsey operations. The soldier has since been promoted by the Chief of the Defence Staff.

Reiterating the Ghana Armed Forces Honour Code, Dr. Boamah emphasized that the safety and welfare of the country and its troops must always come before personal comfort.

He outlined key plans under the government’s vision to reset Ghana, including enhanced operational capacity, improved troop welfare, global partnerships, quality healthcare under the Mahama Cares Initiative, fair compensation, infrastructure upgrades, and professional development.

“Our goal is to leave behind a modernized, expanded, and responsive military—with happier troops than ever before,” he assured.

Dr. Boamah called for unity and shared responsibility in building a stronger, more secure Ghana.
