Preparations are underway for the enthronement and coronation of the 26th King of the Denkyira Kingdom.
As part of the process, the Denkyira Traditional Council has announced a ban on all funerals, noise-making, and public gatherings within the Denkyira Traditional Area.
The directive takes effect from Monday, September 22, 2025, and will remain in force until Friday, November 7, 2025.
Speaking after an Oman Council meeting at Amponsem Ahenfie in Dunkwa Abankesiɛso, Denkyira Abakomahene, Nana Gyekye Annim III, explained that the measure is necessary to create a serene atmosphere for the sacred rites, rituals, and traditional observances that precede the enstoolment of a new king.
He emphasized that the period leading to the coronation is spiritually significant for the Denkyira people, serving as a time of purification, unity, and reflection for the entire kingdom.
According to him, activities such as funerals, loud music, and other social gatherings could interfere with the solemnity of the process.
“This is a time for us as Denkyira citizens to come together in discipline and reverence. The rituals we will perform are not just for the new king but for the progress and peace of the entire kingdom,” Nana Gyekye Annim III stated.
He urged chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents across communities within the traditional area to cooperate fully with the council.
He also cautioned that anyone who flouts the order will face traditional sanctions.
The council further directed churches, mosques, drinking bars, and event organizers to suspend all noisy activities until the period ends.
Meanwhile, Nana Gyekye Annim III disclosed that on Monday, September 29, 2025, the Traditional Council will formally proclaim the King-elect at the Jukwa forecourt of Amponsem Ahenfie, after which other sacred rituals and ceremonies will follow, leading to the grand coronation.
