For years now, policy makers have been pushing for economic progress through digitalization. Successive governments have initiated a number of projects aimed at connecting more people to the Internet.

In 2004, Ghana finalized and legally adopted its ICT Policy for Accelerated Development (ICT4AD), which outlined its vision for the information age.

However – and this is the flip side of the coin – digital improvements are predominantly benefiting high earners in urban areas or companies based along the fiber optic infrastructure.

As Ghana is going Digital, have our leaders considered citizens in the rural areas? Or it is only some part of the country that have been selected to go digital? And besides, in taking decisions, do our leaders consider the pliers and plea of the  people in the rural areas? I don’t think so, this is because people of Asikasu in the New Juaben North Municipality in the Eastern region do not have an idea about what is going on in the country.

How can they have information about National issues, when people in the town are facing network issues?

Sometimes, hearing from their loved ones and relatives in other part of the country or same town is very difficult, due to poor network.

During an interview with Samuel Inkoom, a citizen of the town, he said, they feel very disappointed to be part of the country, because Asikasu has always been left out in the sharing of National Cakes, to the extent that, in terms of network, they would have to walk far away to the next town to get good network to visit their social media handles, before they can get information.

I totally agree with Samuel Inkoom, because they are Ghanaians and every Four years, they cast their votes as citizens of the country, due to that, it is mandatory for the government to hear their plea in terms of issues relating to their network since Ghana is going digital.

Students performance in academic is very low due to poor network. Students are not able to get access to the Internet to search and discover new things pertaining academic,  nor get access to constantly practice the basic ICT lessons they are being taught in school.

As a result of this, students’ performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination(B.E.C.E), is very bad to the extent that, most of them, are not able to further their education to the senior high level.

Several complaints have been made to the community executives but, nothing has been done concerning the problem.
